CHEESE PLANE

Brief:

The Danish household brand Osti extends the product line with a new cheese plane to complement the existing Osti Original cheese slicer. Design for cheese plane and packaging system.

Approach:

Osti’s two iconic form details; the propeller shape from the Osti Original and the Osti brand’s “Ostillipsoid” shape, join each other a new collaboration for a beautiful, strong, lightweight construction. This minimises resource usage in production, making the Osti 01 cheese plane competitive while keeping form and function. The packaging supports the practical and aesthetic approach with its innovative and easy solution to assembly and unpacking, all conveying Osti’s core values; care, craftsmanship, ease of use and friendly form.

Notes:

The Osti 01 cheese plane takes off with solid sales numbers based primarily on POS exposure, and indicates, along with the updated Osti Original, the beginning of a new generation of friendly and functional products from Osti. The combination of the Osti 01 and the packaging solution wins the ED-Awards 2014 bronze award – and in 2015 the Osti 01 Cheese Plane and the packaging win each their iF GOLD AWARD, taking home gold for both a product and its packaging for the first time in the 60+ years of iF DESIGN AWARD. Furthermore, the Osti 01 wins the coveted Home Style Gold Award 2015 in Shanghai, China, the world famous Red Dot Design Award in 2016 – and the packaging earns a 2015 Cannes Lions Design Shortlist as well.
